For decades diners remained "undiscovered," innocuous elements in the landscape, easily overlooked. The publication of several books on diners at the end of the 1970s, however, helped bring attention to these food service fixtures. As the public's interest increased, countless classic diners from all eras were restored and put back into operation. A few were even rescued from demolition and installed in museums (like the Ever Ready here at the Culinary Archives & Museum).
