The diner is America's original fast food
restaurant. In the 19th century, the horse-drawn wagons that were precursors
to diners were, in fact, known as "Quick Lunches."
Besides serving their own unique style
of food, diners also share a unique shape and look. Built in factories
and then moved to their locations, diners offer a distinctive mix of
form and function: modular yet imaginative. Their history spans more
than 125 years, and the exhibit demonstrates both their remarkable evolution
and society's waxing and waning infatuation.
