This landmark in Providence was donated to the museum after it closed in 1989. In the early 1950's, the original Ever Ready, on Charles Street in Providence, had to be torn down to make way for Route 146. Roger Godin and Tom Conley, son of the original owner, purchased a reconditioned diner from the Worcester Lunch Car Company and moved it to Admiral Street, where the newly-christened Ever Ready Diner reopened for business in 1958. Mr. Godin and Mr. Conley ran the diner until 1984, earning the Ever Ready a reputation for the best wieners in town. Although it changed hands several times in the next few years, in 1989 its future was secured when Morris Nathanson and Bud Frank donated the Ever Ready to Culinary Archives & Museum at Johnson & Wales University.
