Saturday's paper incorrectly stated the grand prize "will
be the Heinz blender award". The later correction:
"The Sarasota Chefs Association's grand prize at the
Manatee Council on Aging's Chocolate Festival is the Heinz
Bender award. A story in Saturday's edition stated otherwise."

The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort's pastry chef Didier
Goller and assistant Pastry chef Frank McDonald won the
grand prize and first runner-up award, respectively, at
the Manatee Council on Aging's Chocolate Festival on Jan.
21.
The Chocolate Festival's Professional Chefs Dessert Competition
was sponsored by the American Culinary Federation and the
Sarasota Bay Chefs Association.
Goller received the grand prize, the Heinz Bender award,
which was named in the memory of Bender, a former local
member who served as executive pastry chef for the White
House during the Ford administration. Photo of both chefs
with their plaques.

Chocolate festival: Twenty chocolatieres and merchants will
be taking part in the second annual Chocolate Festival,
noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Bradenton Municipal Auditorium,
Bradenton. Last year's grand prize winner was Didier Gollier,
formerly of the Colony Restaurant, who created a miniature
chocolate grand piano. He received the Heinz Bender award
presented by Mrs. Heinz Bender of Longboat Key. The late
Heinz Bender for many years was the White House chef. (Has
photograph of the winner with his dessert as Mrs. Bender
presents his plaque.)
